Conceptual Media Installation

[ri’zist] is a conceptual media installation inside a specifically made room in room construction, trying to portrait nowadays sense of time in digital spaces.

Alienation seems to have lost its general meaning due to the inflationary usage of the word in past times. In respect of today’s observation we can clearly see the resistance and currentness of this matter and not its disappearance. Alienation in the 21st Century behaves different – obscured but with drastically increased frequency. Virtual everyday life is not one of warmth, physicality, pain, memory or scars. It’s free from distance and destiny.

The problem doesn’t lie within the existence of digital technology but rather its design and the caused effects on us that manifest in the retreat of the communal world. Multi-user domains, privatisation, self-representation, fast paced life, production enforcement and the sheer amount of information are only a few issues that are noticable in today’s identity crisis that is leading to neuronal illnesses such as Personality Disorder, Burnout or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Johanna Gschwandtl and Anna Brunner, both Multimedia Art students, are addressing together with the music producer and label manager Dominic Caudr, the forced urge to efficiency by creating this media installation and attempting to reveal connections between technology and deluded lifestyles.
